Tasting Note

Product Overview

Established in 1985 Pegasus Bay is owned and operated by the Donaldson family, pioneers of local grape growing and winemaking. Their aim is to grow grapes of the highest quality, which fully express the features of the vineyard, and to handle these with the utmost respect. Pegasus Bay wines are made with estate grown fruit from our Waipara valley vineyard.

Winemaking Notes

Naturally low levels of crop resulted from frequent blustery winds over flowering. The season was otherwise excellent and produced beautifully ripened semillon, from which this wine is made. Over the late autumn and winter the berries developed botrytis. The fruit was then hand picked by making multiple passes over the same small block, selecting only the most perfectly noble and shrivelled berries on each occasion. The harvest started in May and finished near the end of July, (equivalent to January in the northern hemisphere) which must be almost a world record for a late harvest wine!

Tasting Notes

It has a complex interplay of floral, candied fruit, marzipan, bush honey, vanilla pod and toasted almond characters. It seems to expand on the palate to become unctuous, mouth
filling and luscious, yet a counterfoil of refreshing acidity keeps it perfectly balanced and prevents any cloying. The aromas and flavours linger on the palate long after it is swallowed.
