The 2009 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Échézeaux is a rare and storied expression from Burgundy’s most iconic producer. Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (DRC) owns just over 4.6 hectares of Échézeaux vines in the Côte de Nuits, all organically and biodynamically farmed. Though Échézeaux is one of the more approachable crus in the DRC lineup, its pedigree is unquestionable—offering a singular lens into the domaine’s style with slightly more immediacy than its more famous siblings.
The 2009 vintage is regarded as one of the great warm years of the 21st century in Burgundy, and this wine expresses it in full: the nose is richly perfumed with raspberry, cherry, peony, spice, and a touch of sandalwood. The palate is silken and sensual, balancing ripe red fruits with fine-grained tannins and a persistent, mineral-driven finish. Production is minuscule, and allocations are fiercely limited, making each bottle a collector’s prize and a rare chance to experience the finesse of DRC in its most charming and accessible form.
